The Department of Humanities and Sciences at Jyothy Institute of Technology provides a strong foundation in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Communication, and Soft Skills for engineering students. The department primarily caters to first-year B.E. students and supports all engineering programs by developing analytical thinking, scientific temper, and professional competencies essential for academic and career success.
The department is actively involved in research and interdisciplinary projects in emerging areas of science and technology. Through innovative teaching methodologies, laboratory learning, and student-centered activities, it helps students bridge the gap between fundamental sciences and engineering applications, thereby contributing to their holistic development as competent engineers. Faculty members actively participate in research, fostering a culture of scientific inquiry, innovation, and lifelong learning.
The Student Induction Programme is conducted for newly admitted first-year engineering students in accordance with the guidelines of the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The programme is designed to facilitate a smooth transition from school to professional engineering education by familiarizing students with the academic environment, institutional culture, and university regulations.
The programme focuses on students’ academic, social, emotional, and ethical development. It includes orientation sessions on the VTU curriculum, examination system, credit structure, academic regulations, campus facilities, and student support services. Students are also introduced to Universal Human Values, Professional Ethics, Innovation and Creativity, Physical Fitness, Yoga, Cultural Activities, Language and Communication Skills, along with interactions with faculty members and senior students.
Through expert talks, group activities, mentoring sessions, and interactive workshops, the programme promotes confidence, teamwork, self-discipline, and a sense of belonging among students. It serves as a foundation for holistic development and prepares students to successfully embark on their engineering journey.
A Soft Skills Training Programme is also organized for first-year engineering students by the World Language Club (English Forum) in association with the Placement and Training Cell to enhance their communication, interpersonal, and professional skills. The programme focuses on developing confidence, teamwork, leadership qualities, time management, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication. Through interactive sessions, group activities, presentations, and discussions, students gain valuable skills essential for academic success and future career growth.
The training programme helps students improve their overall personality and prepares them for professional environments.
