Training Program on EBSCO and IEEE 

A Training Program on EBSCO and IEEE was organized at Jyothy Institute of Technology (JIT) Auditorium on March 4th, 2025 under IEEE Student Branch. The event aimed to educate students and faculty members about the benefits of using EBSCO and IEEE Xplore for academic research and professional development. 

The session was conducted by Mr. M. S. Srinivasa, Training Manager at EBSCO & IEEE, and was attended by faculty members, students, and researchers. The program covered e-resources, AI in software engineering, IoT, cloud computing, AMA micro-courses, and certifications. 

The event commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Swathi Bhat, Vice Chair of the IEEE Student Branch and a student from the 6th semester, ECE. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of leveraging digital resources for research and academic excellence. Following this, the Principal of JIT, Dr. Gopalakrishna K, shared his insights on the significance of research tools and their impact on students’ learning experiences. 

                             

 

 

 

 

Key Highlights of the Workshop 

  1. Introduction to EBSCO host
     
  • EBSCOhost is an online research database providing access to many journals, e-books, and academic resources. Some key takeaways regarding EBSCOhost were: 
  • Faculty members get access to AI-powered storage and research resources. 
  • Students and faculty can access over 24 lakh e-books. 
  • The system allows downloading entire books (if permitted by the system). 
  • Research articles can be accessed through the EBSCO mobile app for convenience. 
  1. Installation and Sign-On for EBSCO
     
  • The resource person demonstrated the installation of the EBSCO mobile app. 
  • Faculty members were guided on how to sign in to access premium research content. 
  1. IEEE Xplore Digital Library
     
  • IEEE Xplore is a leading digital library providing access to engineering, computing, and technology research papers. 
  • The session covered how to navigate IEEE Xplore and find relevant research papers. 
  1. Importance of Research and Paper Submission
     
  • The speaker discussed how authors can present their research papers through IEEE and EBSCO. 
  • Guidelines for paper writing and publishing were shared. 
  • Researchers were encouraged to be active and engaged in the academic community. 
  1. Additional Insights
     
  • The session covered AI in software engineering, IoT, and cloud computing materials on the websites. 
  • The AMA micro-courses, which are free and come with certifications, were introduced. 

Interactive Activities 

  • An online quiz was conducted during the session, where winners were recognized. 

Winners list: 

  • 1st prize – Swathi Bhat, 6th Semester, ECE. 
  • 2nd prize – Trisha N K, 6th Semester, ECE. 
  • 3rd prize – Adithya Nagendra Prasad, 4th Semester, ECE. 
  • Attendees were required to mark their online attendance, and e-certificates were provided for participation. 

  

Conclusion 

The training program provided valuable insights into academic research tools, IEEE Xplore, and EBSCOhost. It emphasized the importance of using credible sources for research, publishing papers, and staying updated with the latest technological advancements. The session was informative and interactive, equipping students and faculty with essential research skills. 

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Jishnu, Chair of the IEEE Student Branch, who expressed gratitude to the speaker, faculty members, and participants for making the event a success.
