Dr. Ganesh Sambasivam is the Co-Founder, Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), and Executive Director of Anthem Biosciences Pvt. Ltd., one of India’s leading contract research, development, and manufacturing organizations (CRDMOs). With over three decades of experience in pharmaceutical research and innovation, he has played a significant role in advancing drug discovery and development in India. He earned his B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Madras and completed his M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Pune. He began his scientific career at the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune, where he developed a strong foundation in research and process chemistry before joining Syngene International as one of its founding scientists.
During his tenure at Syngene, Dr. Sambasivam rose to the position of Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer, leading multidisciplinary research teams and contributing to the organization’s rapid growth. In 2006, he co-founded Anthem Biosciences with the vision of building a globally competitive research-driven pharmaceutical company. Under his scientific leadership, Anthem has emerged as a trusted partner for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies worldwide, offering integrated services from early-stage drug discovery to commercial manufacturing. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he is widely respected for his collaborative leadership, mentorship of young scientists, and commitment to fostering innovation through strong industry–academia partnerships.
Dr. Sambasivam’s research interests encompass drug discovery, medicinal chemistry, organic synthesis, process research and development (Process R&D), pharmaceutical process optimization, combinatorial chemistry, and the development of novel therapeutic molecules. His work focuses on translating scientific discoveries into practical healthcare solutions through innovative and sustainable research approaches. He continues to inspire researchers with his passion for scientific excellence, lifelong learning, and the pursuit of technologies that improve global healthcare. His career exemplifies how vision, perseverance, and innovation can drive meaningful advancements in pharmaceutical science and benefit society.
