Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at JIT proudly inaugurated the STANDARDS CLUB, an initiative in collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), aimed at nurturing the young ambassadors of quality and spreading awareness about the significance of standards in everyday life.

The event commenced at 9:30 AM in the ECE Seminar Hall with student registration, where participants received eco-friendly jute folders bearing the JIT and BIS logos. The formal inauguration was marked by the traditional lighting of the lamp by esteemed dignitaries: Mr. R. Bhanu Prakash, former Director / Scientist – E & Head, BIS; Dr. Gopala Krishna, Principal, JIT; and Dr. Chandrasekhar K, HOD, ECE Department.

As part of the inaugural activities, a Standard Writing Competition was conducted at 2:00 PM on the topic “LED-based Solar Lantern”, selected by the BIS representative. Students formed teams of four to participate enthusiastically in the competition.

The event concluded with a Valedictory Function, which included a heartfelt vote of thanks to the management, faculty, students, and BIS representatives for their support. Winners were awarded cash prizes. Certificates were distributed to all winners and participants, acknowledging their efforts. This initiative is a step forward in inculcating the importance of quality and standardization among young minds, aligned with the vision of BIS.

The establishment of the Standards Club has effectively enhanced students’ awareness of standardization, its role in product licensing, and the functioning of BIS in Electronics and IT domains—contributing to their overall professional development.
