Semester: III & V Semester (Female Students)
An awareness session titled “POSH – Prevention of Sexual Harassment” was conducted on 24th October 2025 for the 3rd and 5th semester female students of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Jyothy Institute of Technology. The resource person for the session was Dr. Annie Sujith, Associate Professor, Department of CSE. The session aimed to sensitize students on recognizing, preventing, and responding to incidents of sexual harassment, and to create awareness about their rights and institutional support systems.
We extend our gratitude to Management, Shri Sringeri Sharada Peetham and Jyothy Charitable Trust, Dr. Gopalakrishna K, Principal, Dr. Prabhanjan S, Professor & Head, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, and POSH Committee members for supporting us and organizing such knowledge-enhancing activities.
The presentation titled “Understanding POSH: Prevention of Sexual Harassment” explained the key provisions of the POSH Act, 2013, the UGC Regulations 2015, and the responsibilities of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in ensuring a safe and respectful academic environment.
During the session, Dr. Annie Sujith highlighted what constitutes sexual harassment through clear examples covering verbal, non-verbal, physical, and digital forms of misconduct. A special interactive activity was conducted to help students differentiate between acceptable and inappropriate behaviors in college settings. Scenarios such as “The Emoji Message,” “The Corridor Whistle,” “The Group Chat Meme,” and “The Private Help Offer” were discussed, enabling students to recognize how context, consent, and intent define harassment.
Towards the end of the session, a short awareness video was screened carrying the message that “on witnessing harassment, one should react, stand by the victim, and show support.” The video reinforced the importance of being an active bystander and promoting mutual respect and accountability within the campus community.
The students actively participated in the session and expressed that it helped them gain clarity on their rights, the reporting process, and the importance of empathy and solidarity in ensuring a harassment-free environment. The overall feedback was very positive, and participants appreciated the interactive and informative approach.
