Generative AI Workshop

Event Name Gen AI Workshop: From Concept to Deployment
Date(s) 5th & 6th December 2025
Venue [BME5], JIT
Organized By AI Nexus Club in association with Dept. of AI & ML
Participants 45 Students (3rd & 5th Semester)

1.Executive Summary
The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, in collaboration with the AI Nexus Club, successfully conducted a two-day intensive workshop on Generative AI. The workshop was designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and industry application. We were privileged to host our alumnus, Ms. Kruthika K S, currently a Senior AI Engineer at Web knot Technologies, who led the sessions. The workshop provided 45 students with deep technical insights into Large Language Models (LLMs) and culminated in a hands-on project where participants built a fully functional RAG-based Chatbot.
2. Resource Person Profile
We were privileged to invite a distinguished alumnus of our own department to lead this technical session.
Ms. Kruthika K S
• Designation: Senior AI Engineer at Web knot Technologies.
• Alumni Status: Dept. of AIML, JIT (Graduated in 2024)
• Industry Experience: She specializes in building scalable AI-powered applications integrating LLMs with robust backend systems. Her portfolio includes major projects like Viz AI, Tax Labs, and Green Light Recruitment.
• Technical Expertise: An expert in Lang Chain, Lang Graph, and Fast API, she has designed multi-agent systems and hybrid recommendation engines that combine Sentence Transformers with real-time pipelines.
• Contribution: Ms. Kruthika provided critical industry mentorship, bridging the gap between academic theory and the specific demands of the AI job market.

3. Objectives
• To introduce students to the cutting-edge concepts of Generative AI and LLMs.
• To drive industry exposure through alumni expertise.
• To provide hands-on experience in building AI applications using modern stacks (Lang Chain, Vector Databases, Fast API).
• To implement a “Retrieval Augmented Generation” (RAG) system from scratch.

4. Mapping to Program Outcomes (POs)
This workshop contributed to the attainment of the following Program Outcomes:
• PO5 (Modern Tool Usage): Students utilized industry-standard tools including Lang Chain, Vector DBs, and Fast API.
• PO12 (Life-long Learning): Exposure to emerging technologies (Gen AI) that go beyond the standard curriculum.
• PSO (Program Specific Outcome): Ability to apply AI/ML concepts to design and develop complex systems (Chatbot).

5. Workshop Proceedings
Day 1: Foundations of Generative AI (December 5th, 2025)
• Session Highlights:
o Introduction to Gen AI: Differentiating between traditional ML and Generative AI.
o Core Mechanics: A deep dive into Tokenization and Chunking strategies essential for processing large datasets.
o Embeddings & Vector Databases: Explanation of how text is converted into vectors and stored for efficient retrieval.
o Frameworks: Introduction to Lang Chain as an orchestration tool for LLMs

Day 2: Implementation & Deployment (December 6th, 2025)
• Session Highlights:
o RAG Architecture: Detailed explanation of Retrieval Augmented Generation to improve LLM accuracy and reduce hallucinations.
o Backend Development: Using Fast API to wrap the AI models into deployable web services.
o Project Execution: Students worked simultaneously with the speaker to code the final project.

6. Technical Outcomes: The Hands-on Project
The core differentiator of this workshop was its strict adherence to industry standards. Unlike theoretical seminars, every participant was required to build a functional software product.
Project Problem Statement: Develop an AI-powered system capable of ingesting PDF documents and answering user queries based only on the document context.
Project Deliverables (Checklist Achieved by Students):
• Chatbot Creation: Developed a conversational interface.
• Vector Database Integration: Implemented for semantic search.
• RAG Implementation: Connected the LLM to custom data sources.
• Data Processing: Implemented robust text splitting (chunking).
• PDF Handler: Created a module for dynamic file uploads.
• API Wrapping: Used Fast API to serve the model.
• UI/UX: Delivered an impressive user interface for interaction.

8. Participant Feedback Summary
Feedback was collected from the attendees at the conclusion of the workshop:
• Relevance: Students rated the topic as “Highly Relevant” to current industry trends.
• Methodology: The “Code-along” format was cited as the most valuable aspect,
ensuring no student was left behind.
• Interaction: Participants appreciated the approachable nature of the alumni speaker.
9. Valedictory & Acknowledgments
The workshop concluded with a formal closing ceremony. Dr. Madhu B R, Head of the Department (AIML), addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of mastering Gen AI tools in the current job market.
Dr. Madhu B R presented a memento to Ms. Kruthika K S as a token of appreciation for her technical contribution to her alma mater.
