Dr. Viswanatha R obtained his M.Sc (2006) in General Chemistry from Kuvempu University,Shimoga. He worked as a project assistant with with Prof, K. J Rao, IISc Bangalore for close to 2 years. He obtained his PhD from Kuvempu University, Shimoga. He worked as a post-doctoral fellow with Professor KJ Rao, IISc Bangalore for one year. Later he worked jointly withProfessor Daniel Mandler, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel and with Professor Sabine Szunerits, Interdisciplinary research Institute, lille University of Science and Technology,France, on “controlled release of Insulin using Graphene oxide and reduced Graphene oxide particles. In 2015, he was awarded UGC – Kothari postdoctoral fellowship and joined Prof. N Munichandraiah Lab, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry Dept, Indian Institute of Science,Bangalore to work on Sodium ion Batteries. He has over 12 years of experience in research. He has published 46 research articles in reputed international and national journals and few in conference proceedings. He is currently the co-investigator in 3 national and international projects funded by DST and European Union agencies. His research interests are in the areas of Nanomaterials and Energy Storage Materials, He is also Life Member of Electro chemical Society of India, IISc, Bengaluru, India. He is currently working as Assistant Professor and Head.

Dr. Lakshminarayana Bhatta obtained his Doctoral degree from VTU for his thesis work entitled “Studies on Novel Sorbents for CO2 Capture for Environmental Applications” that he undertook jointly with BHEL and CPRI. With a Master’s in Chemistry from Kuvempu University, Karnataka in 1998 he started his career in a pharmaceutical industry at Bangalore as a quality control executive. He has a good exposure to various pharmaceutical industrial practices and obtained a firsthand experience in handling various chemical instruments, including GC, HPLC, FTIR, and AAS. His fascination for teaching led him to join BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore as a lecturer. Prior to current affiliation, he served in different educational institutions in various capacities, motivating the students to develop creative ways to acquire the knowledge and skills and put them into practice. He has taught various courses, including engineering chemistry, environmental studies, fundamentals of chemistry and physical chemistry. About eight years ago, the current global challenges such as energy crisis and climate change caught his attention and motivated him to focus his interest on energy & environment. Since then, he has been working on the development of solid sorbents for CO2 capture, microbial fuel cell, and biofuel. He has taught allied subjects such as Environmental engineering and Climate change technology for master’s programs in energy engineering and energy management. Further, he has guided many postgraduate research projects and successfully completed projects funded by DRDO, GTRE and TUV. He has several publications to his credit and authored a text book entitled “Environmental Studies” for engineering students of VTU. He is also a member of several technical non-profit organizations. His research interests include Energy efficiency, Environmental engineering, Carbon footprint, and Green chemistry. His spare time interests & hobbies include reading Kannada literature, writing articles for magazines and newspaper, trekking, nature-watching, travelling, listening Indian classical music, and interacting at social and personal front with people from all walks of life to better understand the fellow human beings and currently works as a Professor.

Muralidhara completed his Master’s and Ph.D from Kuvempu University, Karnataka and joined IISc, Bangalore as a Post-doctoral fellow in the year 2008. Subsequently he got into the academic domain and worked as Head-R&D Chemistry at KSIT and Center for Emerging Technologies, Jain University, Bangalore. Muralidhara’s main research domain includes electrochemistry and water purification. Research on Electrochemistry involves the development of low-cost Iron based flow batteries for renewable storage and electro deposition on metals/alloys or 3D plastics for aerospace, automobile, medical and engineering applications. Research on water purification includes design and characterization of hierarchical nanostructures for removal of heavy metal ions and dyes from contaminated water. He has already completed projects funded by VTU and DOS and currently has ongoing projects from DST. Muralidhara has authored about thirty five research articles and one book. His publications have so far been cited more than 700 times and has a h-index of 8. He has supervised two Ph.Ds, and more than thirty students at the Master’s level. Apart from basic and applied research he is also associated with projects having societal relevance and industrial/consultancy projects in the area of environment and electrochemistry. Muralidhara is the recipient of “MRSI Medal” by Materials Research Society of India. He is a life member for several bodies and reviewer for reputed publishers like Elsevier, Springer and Taylor and Francis. Also he is the recipient of best oral award in conferences, top cited articles award and best reviewer award from Elsevier. He has delivered many invited/plenary lectures and is currently working as an Associate Professor.

Dr.Uma M S obtained her Ph.D in Physics from Bangalore University. During her doctoral studies, she worked on Quantum Information Science focussing on characterization of quantum entanglement- phenomenon behind Quantum computers and quantum teleportation. She was a Senior Research Fellow at CSIR-UGC, New Delhi. She has over 15 years of teaching and Research experience and has numerous research papers in peer reviewed journals. Her areas of interest include Theoretical Physics and Fluid Dynamics. She is currently guiding Ph.D students under Visvesvaraya Technological University. Presently she is working as prof and Head, Physics Department.

Dr. Umananda Bhatta obtained his Ph.D in Physics from Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubaneswar affiliated to Homi Bhabha National Institute (DAE undertaking). During his Ph.D he was instrumental in developing in-situ heating facility at IOP, Bhubaneswar, during which period he did an extensive study on temperature dependent behaviour of Au thin films on various Si substrates. After completing his PhD, he got selected to work on an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), UK project, and undertook his postdoctoral research at the Department of Materials and Engineering, University of Sheffield from 2010 to 2013. During this time, he worked on a project titled, “Building Ceramic Metamaterials from Nanoparticles: A combined Modeling, Tomography and In-situ Loading Study” a part of EPSRC project which involved collaborations with several other distinguished Universities from UK and USA. During his postdoctoral stint, he played a key role in studying the surface properties of ceramic nanomaterials using advanced electron microscopy techniques, including Aberration Corrected Microscopy, Nanotomograpy, Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) and Nano indentation among others. His major specialization include, Advanced Electron Microscopy and associated techniques and has vast experience in other domains of experimental surface physics including X ray diffraction, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Ion Beam Synthesis and Characterization. His main research interests include, studying Interactions at surfaces/interfaces of different nanomaterials/hetero epitaxial thin films, Ion beam synthesis (IBA) and characterization and in-situ thermal and mechanical studies of nanomaterials. Umananda was invited to KEK accelerator Centre, Tsukuba, and Nagoya University, Japan during 2007 summer as a part of bilateral exchange programme, during which he did an extensive work on X-ray irradiation of Polymer thin films. Dr Bhatta has more than forty five publications in various peer reviewed international journals, including Elsevier, ACS, APS, IoP, RSC among others. He has his research published in high impact factor journals with an average impact factor of more than 4 and the highest Impact Factor so far being 13.3. He has more than 500 citations to his credit with h-index of 13. During his brief research carrier of about 13 years, as an experimental physicist, he has presented papers in many National and International conferences including prestigious MRS Fall meetings at Boston (2011, 2012). He has been an active member of Electron Microscopy association of India (EMSI). Recently he has been the recipient of DST Young Scientist Research Grant and awarded a project in collaboration with DAE and funded by UGC-DAE, CSR. Currently Umananda is working as an Associate Professor.

Mr. Susheel Kumar Gundanna obtained his Master’s from the Department of Physics, Bangalore University, Bengaluru. After completing his M.Sc., he joined the Surface and Interface group at CIIRC, Jyothy Institute of Technology, as a Project Fellow. During this time, he worked on a project entitled “In-situ TEM study of nucleation and growth of embedded Ge nanostructures in SiO 2 and Si 3 N 4 matrices” funded by UGC-DAE-CSR under the guidance of Dr Umananda M Bhatta. He is currently registered for the doctoral program at Visvesvaraya Technological University. He has experience in handling several sophisticated instruments such as SEM, XRD, TGA, UV-Vis Spectroscopy, FTIR, etc. He has more than 4 years of research experience with several publications to his credit. He has presented his research at various national and international conferences. His main research areas include the synthesis of embedded nanostructures using low-energy ion implantation and chemical methods, electron microscopy of nanostructured materials, and surface/interface characterization.
