Computer Society Of India (CSI) Student Chapter Inauguration -@ JIT

CSI student chapter was inaugurated by Mrs. Bhanumathi K S, Chairperson, CSI Bangaluru Chaper.
Chief guest was Dr. P. Selvaraj, Senior Scientist, Group Director ,in ADA, Bangalore.

Coding Challenge

The Class of 4th semester is divided into groups namely

1.Ganga

2.Godavari

3.Yamuna

4.Saraswathi

5.Kaveri

6.Narmada

Each group consists of both boys and girls. Coding Challenge was given to all the groups .10 days time was given for preparation.

An event named ‘Coding challenge’ was organised, where in the group presented their practical work. The students have learnt all the phases of software development such as modelling the problem, design, coding, testing etc.

Students participated with lot of enthusiasm.

Initially when we started with the group ‘Ganga’ they demonstrated coin exchange problem with small presentation. Most of the teams demonstrated this within 25 min of stipulated time. Some teams gave the presentation of the problem with some extension of time. Every student of a team participated in the presentation. Code was written by following convention of C programming in a systematic way.

Live Demo During ETET-2016

re_1Live demo of projects was arranged as part of ETET-2016 on 11-02-2016.Students of 4th / 6th / 8th semester of computer science and information science participated in the live demo.

Some of the projects displayed were based on the following concepts:

  • Internet of things

  • Image analysis

  • Computer vision

  • Usage of Raspberry PI

  • Usage of Arduino Boards

  • Computer Graphics

  • Temperature Sensors , Humidity Sensors

  • Sound analysis

Most of the students have prepared for 2 to 3 weeks for this event. The event was enjoyed and appreciated by everyone. The students of second semester had an opportunity to witness the different technologies on display.

The event was inaugurated and judged by Smt. SaravanaKumari Sundaram, Director – Insurance Solutions, Virtusa, Bangalore

Neo4J – DB Interest Group Event

Neo4j is a highly scalable native graph database that leverages data relationships as first class entities, helping enterprises build intelligent applications to meet today’s evolving data challenges. Before the session, we were asked to install neo4j software.
We had a session on graphical database management using neo4j on 06th of april 2016. It was introduced by Srinidhi Kulkarni, Asst prof Dept of CSE and Harish Sir, Asst prof Dept of CSE.
The basics were taught by Srinidhi Sir and practical implementation by Harish k. It was started around 2 ‘o’ clock in the CS/IS seminar hall. The room was quite crowded as a whole of 60 and odd people were fit into the room.
Srinidhi Sir started off with the introduction to the different tools available for the database management. We started understanding it better when we actually started using neo4j. We were able to implement it under the guidance of Harish sir.
We were asked to sketch a graph(schema diagram) using neo4j about the “T20 World Cup”.
By the end of the session, Adithya sir asked us to implement a graphical database on “Facebook post” independently.
It was a good opportunity to know about a graph database neo4j.
This session was held under database self-interest group.

A Day @ Intel Expo 2016

Live demo has always been a enthusiastic display of technology in our college. This time around we were fortunate to get a chance to visit Intel Expo for the demonstration of technology in Intel. The Intel Edison Spider BOT,  Hand gesture  based king Julian game, smart interconnected watches, flight simulator, virtual reality and augmented photos were a treat to tech minds and fun for kids who had accompanied their parents in Intel.

The 3D printing technology which not just printed models but essentially scanned the models using HP Sprout computer was mind blowing. We throughly enjoyed and got some very good ideas as takeaway for our live demo at our college

Nikhil Bharadwaj of 6 th semester ISE and Vishal Srinivas of 6 th semester CSE participated in Web designing and secured 1 st prize for “Designing Sports Web page”. In the Mini project demo, Tilak K and Perumal S won the 1 st prize for their work on “Automated Parking”.

Automated Parking lot was implemented using Arduino and was based on the concept of Internet of Things (IoT). We received lot of positive feedback from the staff and students at the Nandi Institute. It was a great experience for all of us. They were very happy with our work and appreciated the college management for taking initiatives to encourage the students.

We were very fortunate to have received great support from HOD, Principal and the faculty members of the department.

A Day @ Bang The Table

On Saturday 26th March 2016, I attended an one day workshop on ‘PYTHON’. It was conducted by IEDF and the venue was ‘BANG THE TABLE’ located in INDIRANAGAR, 12th main.

My friends (Arjun Hangud, Perumal, Vinay Bhat, Tilak and Vinay Raj) and me initially struggled to locate the venue. We searched the same road again and again, ultimately Vinay Bhat was able to locate it.

The company was located at 3rd floor, so we took elevator to go to that floor. All of was were acting like kiddos in that elevator, pressing all the buttons, so that the elevator stops at each floor.

We expected it would be like a typical classroom environment. But it was completely a different scenario. We were provided with bean bags and free WiFi . So it was more of a comfortable corner.

The session began at 9:45 AM. The speaker was Arvind Padmanabhan.He is the founder of IEDF(Indian Engineering Design Forum). He had a very profound knowledge of PYTHON. Just like all other workshop, he also started with a brief introduction about PYTHON.

My friends and me were only students who attended the workshop. All the other participants were professional working in various companies and organizations.

The first session was installation of PYTHON on two major platforms: UBUNTU and WINDOWS.

The second session was an interactive hands on session which helped us to understand the basics of PYTHON. We had a tea break. They even served biscuits, chocolates and snacks which was much needed for distraction and also networking with other participants.

Now, we were left with two challenging sessions and one lunch break. These challenging sessions were ‘Programming Challenge 1’ and ‘Programming Challenge 2’.

The ‘Programming Challenge 1’ was based on operator precedence, strings, math related library functions, string related functions etc. We had to post the answers on the website and Arvind sir used to test and review the answers. So it was a good interactive session.

After Lunch the ‘Programming Challenge 2’ was based on lists, dictionaries, tuples, sets, list comprehension , dictionary comprehension etc. In both the challenge most of the correct answers was posted by us . Arvind sir gave us an excellent guidance as we started climbing the challenge . For almost , all the challenges , he used to provide us with single line code , which was pretty amusing . At the end he showed us some PYTHON based projects . Some of the projects were RIVER CROSSING RESCUE SCOOTER , OIL CAN CRUSHER and many more .

Finally we had a group photo and was ready to leave. We enjoyed the workshop a lot and had an amazing Saturday . But we had to wait half an hour in the parking lot , since our friend Perumal as usual encountered Arvind Sir with his questions .

Coding Contest @ Dept of CSE During ETET-2016

Technically challenging problems were given to more than 10 teams with in JIT and one team from Don Bosco College of Engineering. Students from various branches, across semesters participated actively in this event.re_20160312_104944

Initially when we started to contemplate on what should the structure of this event should be, we though we should have three rounds. The first round being C programming, second a C++ development followed by a web application development. But, when we saw the students who were willing to participate from various other departments and also from lower semesters, we decided to have same three rounds, but this time only C programming problems were giving to the participants.re_20160312_101119

The first problem was a simple problem which could be solved within 25 min. Most of the teams solved this within 25 min of stipulated time. Some teams did solve the problem with some extension of time.

By the time the second round started, the crowd of students outside in the quadrangle started getting together for a Treasure Hunt event. Some of the participants naturally distracted wanted to participant in both of these parallel events. The second problem was again a C programming problem with a slight increase in complexity than the previous. 4 teams were able to crack it fully, couple of teams dropped out of the contest to participant in treasure hunt.

Two teams finally were able to complete the 3rd round and one team with a partial output. Later that day, they were awarded prizes during the valedictory function.

IoTShow.in | 2-3-4-5 Rule for IoT in Medical Electronics | India Electronics Week

At the recently concluded IoTShow.in – A three day IoT Expo held at BIEC, there were numerous talks by eminent industry experts which drew attention in the area of IoT. Among those of the densely packed auditoriums was JACARANDA where a speaker by name Mr. Srinivasa Moorthy, CEO, Andhra Pradesh Electronics & IT Agency fascinated me the most with his talk. His speech titled “How to build a device that keeps the doctor away?” showed the path to all those who are aiming at building an IoT solution in the medical electronics domains.

The guidelines he proposed was coined by him as “2-3-4-5 Rule”. The ‘2’ in the rule is much like “Persona map” of the Ideation Process. One need to know for whom the solution is built. Specifically here you need to ask yourself if you are targeting either the General Public or Physicians (Medical Experts). Why should you ask this question? The answer is obvious. The needs of each of these groups are different, which have to ultimately reflect in the solution you build for them.

Secondly the ‘3’ in the rule talks about the type of the solution you build. The solution you build may be used for Preventing some impairments or disorders. It may be a solution which may be used as a Monitoring tool which concentrates on certain parameters like Blood Sugar Level/Blood Pressure/Heart Beat etc. It may be a solution which can be used for Treatment of a particular disorder like Insulin Injector for diabetics, etc.

The ‘4’ in the rule lists the mandatory characteristics of the Solution you build. Accuracy, Robustness, Affordability and Universal Acceptance. Medical solutions are so critical, needless to say the systems should produce accurate results/readings. How does the system behave when there is a failure? How affordable is the solution you build? Is the system calibrated well and accepted universally? These are the four questions which must be answered with at most care.

Finally the ‘5’ says you need to follow five design principles. The solution should be a Complete one. It should be a Platform Based solution. It should be Responsive and Safe. A particular Development Process needs to be followed strictly and at last the solution should be Traceable and Manufacturable.

Mr. Moorthy explained each of these items in an elaborated fashion quoting appropriate case studies and use cases. With people like Moorthy we feel there is no dearth of resource persons who can guide young Entrepreneurs. They need not feel lost or confused when they embark their journey towards building an IoT Solution in Medical electronics domain. My colleagues and I were really lucky to be in JACARANDA hall on 12th Jan 2016 to listen to his inspiring speech.
