Technical Site Visit to Kabini Dam and Hydroelectric Power plant on March 19, 2019

The Kabini, also called Kapila, is one of the major tributaries of the river Cauvery in southern India. It originates in the Wayanad District of Kerala state by the confluence of the Panamaram River and the Mananthavady River. It flows eastward to join the Kaveri River at Tirumakudalu Narasipura in Karnataka.

On March 19th 2019 the final year students of civil engineering department along with faculty members visited the Kabini Dam and Hydroelectric power plant.The Kabini dam is 2,284 ft. (696 m) in length with an original gross storage of 19.52 tmc. The Kabini Dam is situated between villages Bichanahalli and Bidarahalli having a distance of 17 km. It is 6 km away from Sargur town in Heggadadevana Kote Taluk, Mysore district, Karnataka.

The whole team was accompanied by Mr. Nagendra, an official at the dam site who briefed the details of the dam and the hydroelectric power plant. The students were able to get a real time exposure of the dam such as the spill way, earthen embankment details, Dam gates, Canal alignment, Drainage gallery etc

In the afternoon session the team visited the hydroelectric power generation plant at the dam and got the information of how the power generation takes place from the dam, the type of turbines used, its speed, Water Head, Capacity of turbine etc., After seeing and learning the principles of how the actual power generation takes place the team enjoyed a delicious lunch at MYRADA- CIDORS (Centers for Institutional Development and Organizational Reform Research) and returned. On the way the team visited “Sri Nimishamba Temple” located about 2 km from Srirangapatna on the road leading to Sangam in the south Indian state of Karnataka.

Eventually the whole trip was technically beneficial and a memorable one.

CSI Foundation Day held on 02-03-2019

CSI Foundation Day – 2019 was celebrated by CSI Student Chapter on 02-03-2019. A talk titled Exposure to the World of IT was delivered by Anirudh Rao, Research Analyst.

The students of 4th, 6th and 8th semester of CSE and ISE have participated in the event.

The talk deliberated on various issues such as opportunities for young engineers, joining Corporate, joining startup, the importance of coding, salary negotiation tips etc.

Prizes were distributed to the students who have won prizes in the Technical Blog Writing competition conducted on 28-02-2019.

Snacks were distributed to all the students and staff members.

I thank the HODs of CSE and ISE, Principal and the Management for providing us an opportunity to conduct this event.

The event was organized by CSI coordinators Prof A. Nagaraj, Dept of CSE and Prof. Pruthvi Kumar, Dept of ISE.

Technical Blog Writing event for CSE & ISE Students 28-02-2019

Technical Blog Writing competition was conducted on 28-02-2019, for 4th , 6th and 8th  semester students of CSE and ISE, as as part of CSI Foundation Day – 2019. Following 3 topics were given for blog writing.

01. Impact of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence on Job
    Scenario in India.
02. Engineering education in India and its relevance
03. Impact of Social Media on Indian Society

Students were allowed to browse the content for 15 minutes. Next the students were asked to write the blog in their own words and submit the content by email.

Around 120 students have participated in the event. Students have shown interest in this event.

The blogs were evaluated by a panel of experts and the following students were awarded the prizes.

International Women’s Day @ JIT

Happy International Women’s Day!  International women’s day is a day of celebration and reflection on progress made to promote and protect women’s equality and human rights. 

The women’s day celebrations at Jyothy Institute of Technology started at 3.00 PM in the auditorium. The programme was aimed at imparting the values like empowerment and equality which bestowed the sense of appreciation and respect to the entire female fraternity. Dr. Gayathri Reddy, Regional Director, VTU, Shri. K. N. Ramesh, ACP, Traffic, Bangalore south, kindly consented to be the Chief Guest of the function.

The Guests, Shri. M. Narasimhan, Trustee, JCT and Dr. Gopalakrishna. K, Principal of JIT were the distinguished dignitaries on the dais.

The programme started with a invocation song by Ms. Arpita and Ms. Neha of 4th sem Computer Science and Engineering students. After the invocation song, the Principal of JIT welcomed the guests, the chairman of JCT Smt. B. V. Seetha Subrahmanya, the Trustee Members, CIIRC Director Dr. Krishna Venkatesh, the faculty members and the students. The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries.

Dr. Gayathri Reddy made the function really a memorable one. She motivated the women to believe in themselves and urged the women to emerge successful in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles and emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment.

Shri. K. N. Ramesh made the evening lighter with his sense of humour and extended his heartfelt gratitude to the female community through his heart touching songs.

Later in the evening, Prizes and awards were presented to girls who had topped the semester exams in their respective branches. Girls who were achievers in sports were also facilitated by the guests.

Ms. Aishwarya of ISE was also facilitated for having represented VTU in for senior cricket for women.

The most touching and memorable moment of the event was the standing ovation by the audience for Smt. B. V. Seetha Subrahmanya fondly called as Mami by all. She, being the chairman of Jyothy Charitable Trust is at the helm of affairs and has displayed lot of strength and endurance in taking this organization ahead. Who better than her can be a role model for the employees of JIT!

Shri. M. Narasimhan, Trustee, JCT, honored the guests and gave the presidential address in which he mentioned that the importance of women should be ingrained in our value system.

The program ended with light tea and snacks.

Mini Project Exhibition – 23-02-2019

Mini Project Exhibition was arranged by Department of Computer Science and Engineering, on 23-02-2019, Saturday between 09.30 to 12.30. The students of 8th and 6th semester have exhibited  Mini Projects of Web Technologies and Database Management respectively.  17 teams of 8 th Semester and 10 teams of 6th semester, participated in the event.

The event was inaugurated by Vice Principal Dr C B Mohan. The function was attended by Dr Prabhanjan, HOD CSE, and all the teaching and non teaching staff of CSE and ISE departments.

The students of 4 th semester have visited all the project teams, and prepared reports about the projects. The feedback received from students was overwhelming. Students have appreciated the event, and they want the department to conduct these  events, which exposes the students to different technologies.
